The population of Chandigarh Urban Complex (CUC) comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula has been growing fast at a rate of over 5% per year in the last decade. There has been a phenomenal growth in the population of vehicles as well especially the two and four wheelers in this period and their rising use due to rising household incomes. Chandigarh has the highest per capita income in the country. Besides nearby towns are also growing fast and have large traffic interaction with the Chandigarh. In the absence of adequate and quality mass transport system, people are using the personalized modes which is not only leading to congestion on road network but also increasing environmental pollution.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed among the Governments of Haryana and Punjab, and Chandigarh Administration for the formation of Greater Chandigarh Transport Corporation (GCTC) on Thursday for developing a comprehensive integrated multi-modal urban and suburban commuting system for the Union Territory and surrounding areas in the states of Haryana and Punjab. Also the administration has been working to develop cycling tracks all over the city.

However the citizen participation is very much required to frame a integrated and detailed urban mobility plan for “City Beautiful”. So, the Chandigarh Administration hereby invites ideas, views, opinion and suggestions from the residents so that the objective of “Smart Urban Solutions” could be achieved.

#UT #UrbanMobility #Transport #MyGov refr below. like in the west it should be made a crime if motorists overtake school buses waiting for children to board/deboard and anyone endangering school children. these same people when they go abroad follow these rules because they know they can be prosecutyed. but in india they are brazen because they can get away by saying " jaanta hai mera baap kaun hai "

#UT #UrbanMobility #Transport #MyGov it is common to see four and two wheeler drivers not giving way to children going to school on cycles or on foot. most drivers are totally insensitive to school going kids and think it to be their birthright to honk continuously without reducing their speed to make these schoolgoers to clear the road for them. we need to sensitise people to give way to schoolchildren.

Sir, Being a localite of Chandigarh from the past 4 years i personally feel that it's quiet and undoubtedly a beautiful city with only one of it's type. I've been taking views from my counterpart classmates upon the topic of metro establishment and almost all of us strongly feel that metro should be made underground as metro tracks would ruin the beauty of our "CITY BEAUTIFUL"

Metro is a good option to reduce traffic jam in chandigarh beside saving of millon litres of fuel. I think that work should start immediately. Secondly, I proposed to lift all Roundabouts because it creates long traffic congestion. the person who wants to shift to other roads by taking U trun or Right side turning have to stop for thrice on same roundabout by removing roundabout and installing lights will solve 50% problem of trafic jam in chandigarh.

1. Reduce traffic - Charge parking on time basis. 2. Promote public transport - Improve infrastructure 3. Traffic rules - simplify with proper road signage 4. Promote Cycling and Walking - Improve infrastructure 5. Moderate traffic - Lane driving, regulate tractors, bull-carts etc on roads. . . Chandigarh (Tricity) has great scope of smart mobility and well traffic management. Early steps need to be taken with a long term view point. . Brhamesh
