The electronics waste (e-waste) comprises of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, and poses serious challenges globally for improper disposal practices especially in informal sector.

Hon’ble PM has emphasized the need for creating awareness for environmental issues under “Swach Digital Bharat’ during his address at NASSCOM event on 01.03.2015. On the direction of Hon’ble PM, MeitY has initiated the “Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste through Digital India Initiative” over a period of five years to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the informal sector and educate them about alternate methods of disposing their e-waste.

Over 95 per cent of e-waste generated is managed by the informal sector. Integration of the informal sector and access to environmentally safe recycling technologies may reduce the health and environmental hazards. In addition to technology, capacity building, skill management, scientific recycling mechanism, business management training are also required for safe recycling of e-waste.

In this context, MeitY is inviting citizen inputs to provide solution for leakage of E-Waste in the informal sector, and suggest proper recycling technology for E-Waste that is economically available.

The last date of submission of suggestions is 4th April, 2018.

For any further information about E-Waste, please visit the GREENE website.

#SwachhBharat #MyGov For recycling, disposal and management of e-waste first of all devices should be fragmented into different parts. Then many components that can be reused should be taken and those which cannot be recycled should be disposed. For disposal landfills are a great option. And they can also help in making roads. They can be mixed with solutions that is used to build road and can be disposed. Landfills to be made out of cities because they can emit toxic fumes and radiations.

Awareness about safe disposal of e-Waste which cannot be recycled and safe recycling of e-Waste that can be recycled should be created. Recycling plants should be established in every city in the short run and if possible every village in the long run. Collection and transportation of e-Waste from designated spots to e-Waste plants should be arranged. Collection may be done once in a week or twice a week depending on the amount of e-Waste generated in a particular area.

i propose a dual setup of incineration and optical segregation. optical segregation being prior to the incinerator. this will improve efficiency of the plant and also gov should make it mandatory to use plastics in road construction or for extraction of oils. waste to energy is a good step ahead too.

Rather than disposing e-waste we must allow scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to come together and find innovative solutions of building newer product which can be marketed thus allowing businesses to grow.
