The electronics waste (e-waste) comprises of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, and poses serious challenges globally for improper disposal practices especially in informal sector.

Hon’ble PM has emphasized the need for creating awareness for environmental issues under “Swach Digital Bharat’ during his address at NASSCOM event on 01.03.2015. On the direction of Hon’ble PM, MeitY has initiated the “Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste through Digital India Initiative” over a period of five years to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the informal sector and educate them about alternate methods of disposing their e-waste.

Over 95 per cent of e-waste generated is managed by the informal sector. Integration of the informal sector and access to environmentally safe recycling technologies may reduce the health and environmental hazards. In addition to technology, capacity building, skill management, scientific recycling mechanism, business management training are also required for safe recycling of e-waste.

In this context, MeitY is inviting citizen inputs to provide solution for leakage of E-Waste in the informal sector, and suggest proper recycling technology for E-Waste that is economically available.

The last date of submission of suggestions is 4th April, 2018.

Ewaste disposal can be handled with private participation. Big bazaar or other big electronic chains which have good ground presence should be encouraged to install ewaste collector or recycler at stores. Exp towards this should be allowed as a CSR spend as mandated by law for companies. This will benefit super market and stores as this will increase footfalls and may lead to increase sales. They can offer discount on purchase of new product. Govt may further get ewaste collected from them.

Government should provide free home/office pick up for E waste & give small incentive coupons for their next purchase, it will promote the awareness as well as reduce the soil/air/water pollution

Conduct house-to-house surveys for sustainable and eco-friendly living. Offer discounts on property tax apart from energy and water bills for homes following sustainable lifestyles with recycling and least wastage.

Suggestion 3/3: Today, if I have some defective electronic item with me, I simply do not know how and where to dispose it. Moreover, I would like to get some value out of the disposal. There should be a collection / redemption mechanism provided by the manufacturers themselves at the numerous retail outlets where I can deposit the defective/ unused items and get e-cash or other credits in lieu of that. Manufacturers should have a reverse logistics mechanism for collecting back their products.

Suggestion 2/3: Most electronic gadgets have a warranty of 1 year. Further more, after the warranty period, if they develop problems, their repairs cost a lot as whole circuits or motherboards have to be replaced. Mostly, the gadgets are junked. It is suggested that the Government should mandate that all electronic gadgets have a minimum warranty of 3 years. This will force them to make more resilient products. This will have an impact on the cost but substantially reduce the e-waste.

Swachh bharath means not only cleaning the roads and street n all... It means clean In corruption poverty n all so sir I request u to make some thing so it will also corruption free I live in karnataka... Leave about politicians I'm talking about police they simply make other fear and take money and leave then.. I'm not able to explain... But u understand.. And Provide dustbins also sir to make India swatchh

I have 3 suggestions (will post in 3 tranches): Suggestion 1/3. Just like there are star ratings in electrical appliances on their energy efficiency, there can be a rating given to gadgets based on their recyclability. Environmentally conscious customers can take that as an input in making their buying decisions. Image conscious companies will then make efforts to get good ratings on this parameter.

Give good returns to the end customer, so they will kept it with them and submit it at proper center. Ex: We can collect at Retail Chain with instant cash discount to customer.

In my views, Govt should keep Dust bin/boxes at specific places in the city so that people can throw teh electonic waste into it and the same can be recycles. Further to encourage this, a nominal amount can be given to people on using this facility.
