Every year 27th September is celebrated as World Tourism Day. This year the theme of World Tourism Day is Tourism and Rural Development. Tourism helps rural communities hold onto their unique natural and cultural heritage, supporting conservation projects, including those safeguarding endangered species, lost traditions or flavours. Tourism has proven to be a lifeline for many rural communities. The sector is not just a leading source of employment, particularly for women and youth but it also provides opportunities for territorial cohesion and socio-economic inclusion for even the most remote regions.
Our villages and the people who live there are a true custodians and manifestation of our culture.
As we work towards more sustainable development of our country, developing related hard and soft infrastructure and promoting tourism in rural India is much required.

Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with MyGov invites you to share your views ideas on Rural India- How it can leverage tourism.

India is an agro majoritarian country and the rural life is the real place where the actual traditions and cultures if our diverse country exists. Starting from lost receipies to lost art forms everything can be found in Rural India. A great way of boosting rural tourism will be encouraging “Rural Home Stays” where tourist both national and international can spend some time and see the daily rural life from close circuits.

Certain villages could be chosen and modelled entirely in the manner they used to function earlier without modern techniques, working on the basis of indigenous knowledge and culture. For example, panchang tells eclipses etc, people in village know and predict the weather and likewise all in all a self sustaining system without any outside effect and interference ,compatible and sustainable with nature.Such villages will not only attract tourists , but will also give nice message and to them.

Industries and corporates who invest in rural India tourism programs, the investment should qualify for CSR benefits. They are participating in social uplifment of the nation. Even their employees can take benefit from such tourism schemes.
