The Government has announced two major initiatives (Health & Wellness Centres and National Health Protection Scheme) in health sector as part of Ayushman Bharat programme in the General Budget 2018-19. The Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Shri Arun Jaitely while presenting the General Budget 2018-19 in Parliament, said that this was aimed at making path breaking interventions to address health holistically, in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems, covering both prevention and health promotion.

Hon. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has applauded the Ayushman Bharat programme, saying that “Ayushman Bharat will help 10 crore families in their medical need. This is the biggest ever government-sponsored health care programme in the world”. The Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda has hailed the Ayushman Bharat programme and said that “All the diseases will be covered under the scheme. It is not only health insurance. There are many models which we are going to work out. We are going fast on it,”

Ayushman Bharat indicates longer and healthy life for everyone. The logo shows a person stretching on India’s map indicating healthy Indians protected by this program (indicated by two holding hands). The entire map of India also indicates that the program is for every Indian citizen. Tricolor has been used to indicate Indian spirit.

this logo is inspired by Indian and world culture. bordered by a circular ring in the middle there is a Trident (significant in many cultures) wrap around by two snakes like the symbol for medicine and the three heads of the Trident are shaped like parents and a child in the middle, and then six long diamond spokes surround the trident like a wheel. (sorry the scanner is broken) #MoHFW #AyushmanBharat #MyGOv

Right hand is in “Abhay Mudra” of Buddha. It assures the freedom from any worries about life. National Health Protection Scheme truly assures the same for BPL citizens. Right hand also depicts “Aayush Rekha” that symbolises a deeply rooted Indian concept of longevity. A flourishing tricolour Aayush Rekha assures quality life to all. Left hand is in “Varad Mudra” of Buddha. It symbolises charity. Quality Healthcare will be delivered through Health and Wellness Centres.

The main intention of the initiative taken by Ayushman Bharat is to give treatment, free drugs and diagnostic facilities to the poor people. I illustrated the main theme through the map of India in which there are poor people, different symbols of medicines, diseases , treatments. The Ashoka Chakra is seen as stethoscope and showing healthy people of future India in the logo.
