Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has emerged as a wonderful forum to strengthen the bond between the diaspora and the people of India. It offers unlimited opportunities for India to gain from the skill and insight of the diaspora, who have been the pride of India across the world.

This forum seeks inputs on how to further sharpen the focus of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas for the overall development of India. Share your views on what more can be done to make the interaction between the NRIs and the Government more productive and impactful. How can India receive more investment not only from the diaspora but also from the world at large?

If you find global best practices of how various Governments have been innovatively engaging with their diaspora through such summits, you can share the same here too.

Motivate highly skilled NRIs (PhDs etc) employed at foreign universities into teaching at leading Indian universities for short stints of say 2 years, after which they are free to go back. For this two year program, the government could partially fund the salary of the participants, while the rest could be paid by the Indian university where they choose to teach. Brand this as an opportunity to give back to the country.

In India, a bad record in maintaining communal harmony will be enough to mar all the great work done in all other fields. Moreover, this government is going to be viewed much more critically in this regard. So please don't give a chance for pseudo-secularists to score a point. Please let us try to avoid untoward incidents like burning down places of worship, making unwarranted inflammatory speeches etc. Such incidents cause unnecessary distraction and loss of momentum in our pursuit of goal.

Sir, change in sentiment in the last 6 mths is due to the perceived simplification of rules, better land laws & zero tolerance for corruption. These sentiments need to be reinforced with visible work to curb internal corruption & black money. We are probably the only big nation where even land holding & jewellery can be purchased in cash. Even cabs & florists give receipts in EU & US. Skilled, disciplined work force is essential, requiring change in labor laws. Power situation needs urgent attn.

Diaspira can help with promoting Indian culture in both India and abroad. The diaspora takes pride in culture, temples, ancient Indian traditions, Hindi, truely written books, well-made pro-india movies, Indian food, festival, costumes and tourism.they can also promote medical tourism through tv and radio, as well as ayurveda and yoga. Diaspora can teach lndian Indians how to take pride in their own identity just like the advanced countries of the world.
