Our higher education institutions must identify the new domains of knowledge in the global scenario and build up their capacities to meet this need. How can we retain our soft power in the global comity of nations?

Our education system is memory based, thus is geared to rote learning, which discourages original thinking and scientific curiosity. Like in USA, most of teaching and examination should be into the project mode, so that students learn to collect data and put it together to solve a general problem. This will also discourage rote learning which sometimes leads to rampart malpractices during examinations. HEIs should have the role and responsibility for the development of the whole person.
