NDMC, the heart of Delhi is a unique case of urban mobility. With around 2.5 lakh populations the city witnesses influx of over 20 Lakh people everyday mostly for official and commercial purpose. In addition to the commuters there is sizeable number, which crosses the area adding to the traffic woes. The area is very well connected with public transport. Several lines of Delhi Metro and DTC bus routes connect it with rest of the city. However, the very size of commuters and visitors to the area is far too much and smart parking management is the urgent need to decongest the city.

NDMC has two Multilevel Parking lots having about 2200 car parking space and one underground parking of 975 car parking capacity. Experiences of parking management in NDMC areas have shown people’s bias towards roadside or on street parking over and above multi-level off street parking. One reason may be little difference in pricing. The worldwide norm has been a significant higher price of on street parking to discourage it substantially. We may also think on lines of increasing the price of on street/road side parking in multiples of ten. (if multilevel parking rate is Rs. 10 per hour, the road side may be raised to Rs. 100 or more). In addition to this we may identify some areas, which are most central to business and commercial activities where traffic movement should be, either banned or restricted and on street parking should be banned completely.

NDMC invites citizen’s ideas to make the parking and traffic management smart.

a) What is wrong with our Parking System in NDMC area?
b) What are the issues in last mile connectivity of Delhi metro in NDMC area? What can be done to improve it?
c) Which areas in NDMC should be no vehicle zone or restricted vehicle zone?
d) Why people don’t prefer off road parking?
e) Locations for park and ride
f) How to price, zone and enforce smart parking?

Traffic and Parking issues - I feel atleast 50% problem will be solved if govt. looks into future. Like, promoting use of single wheel electric bike and 2 wheeler car electric. . . Eg of 2 wheel car from one of the manufacture. If we invite such companies to make in India, then it will be cost effective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkvvsRBSroA

in my opinion, firstly, permission for construction of any society or any house should be given only if they have adequate IN-BUILDING parking space.secondly, for those who do not have parking space and have cars and park their cars outside their house or on roads, should be charged per-monthly.in this way the govt. will also get money and also those persons who buy cars just to park them(many cars in one house or occasional users)will think about it and avoid unnecessary colection of cars.....

1. Parking in Office complexes should be chargeable so that people use public conveyance 2. Every Govt. Department and big MNC should start bus facilities for their employees like chartered buses to reduce pollution and traffic. 3. Work Timings should be made flexible atleast where possible to avoid traffic and parking issues. 4. Various workshops should be organized for general awareness and small steps/activities through which common people can contribute towards the environment.

This idea is not only for Delhi, but should be implemented by all the small and big builders, we should make a mandate that every society should have a minimum number of local trees planted surrounding the vicinity. The number of trees should be decided based on the area occupied by any builder. For ex, if total area of the society is say 1000 Sq. mt, a minimum number of say 50 trees should be planted by the society club. By this, we can contribute at least very little in reducing pollution

Number of vehicles in the state should be restricted according to house address. Invite Singapore police to give training to citizens and traffic police for 15 days and they should regulate traffic and issue challans there and then and mark it on licence. Three reds on a licence should mean driver to be restricted for three months. Make separate lanes for emergency traffic like Ambulances, Ministers etc and other lanes for regular traffic.

all the large markets in delhi (Malviya Naga, South extension, Khan market)- MUST be redeveloped and upgraded and adequate multi-storey parking created - based on the size of the market and number of people. You cannot have Smart parking before you actually have adequate parking space.

I suggest a VERY BIG "SHAME ON YOU" STICKER (with strong glue making it very hard to remove)to stick on the windscreens of every wrongly-parked cars along with fine & towing options will work wonders to discipline people. A new-gang has to be created under traffic police for this job who has the motivation to make a difference in nightmarish traffic situation.
