Since 1970s the roads in Chennai city are with the same width. In the last 50 years the vehicles on the road have increased manifold and the encroachment on the roads are much on the higher side. The roads have virtually shrunk and it is a Herculean task for the motorists and pedestrians to travel in the city. A major decision is to be taken with a political will to widen the city roads to make commuting manageable. Proper storm drains are not in place to catch and dispose off the road water during monsoons. The roads get flooded and affects especially the ground floor residents. More loss and mental stress. Government does nothing for the affected areas and fail to take up suitable measures to prevent flooding in the subsequent year’s monsoon. In my knowledge, this situation prevails for the past 20 to 25 years. Nobody turned up after the Michaung cyclone to enquire about our problems, in P. S. Sivasami Salai till now.
