A large number of tribal people and other forest dwellers derive their source of livelihood from the collection and marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) which provides them essential food, nutritional, medicinal needs and cash income also. As the business of MFP is different from the traditional ones, it denies due benefits. While government supported Corporations and Federations trade in some MFPs, a large number of these are traded freely in the market which is also not very helpful to the gatherers as MFP production is highly dispersed spatially and because of the poor accessibility of these areas, a competitive market does not exist. As a strategic interventions to ensure fair returns for the MFPs to the gatherers/collectors, the Government has come up with a new scheme of Mechanism for Marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) through Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Development of Value Chain for MFP.

Through the MyGov Platform, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, seeks suggestions/information from all section of the society regarding innovative ideas for value addition to the MFPs, processing and marketing of MFPs, traditional skill and skill development, etc.

Recently flipkart has tied up with varanasi weavers. Similarly, the forest produces can be marketed through online portals. The tie-ups can be performed by business school students during their internships. Usually b-school students o to companies and nos for doing 2/6 months of internships. The government can utilize this students for tie-up so tat it benefit students as well.

An effort may be made to encourage Ayurveda pharma, which depend of forest for raw drugs to invest in plantation of herbs in forests, thereby sensitising them towards deforestation and also the reality that the source of their industry is fast dwindling. Being an Ayurveda Vaidya, I have noticed that cost of Ayurveda medicines is escalating, making it unaffordable for common man, due to increasing cost of raw drugs owing to dwindling forest cover. Good way of engaging village folk and adivasis.
