Manual scavengers are largely illiterate and have no exposure or aptitude for doing business or taking up self employment ventures.  This makes their rehabilitation in alternative occupations very challenging.

\

What are the ways in which the manual scavengers can be gainfully employed in other occupations, so that they do not return to manual scavenging? Participants may share success stories that they may be aware of.

Let rehabilitation of manual scavengers be a corporate social responsibility CSR and use mechanised scavenging and help in building these skill sets in the existing people Make it mandatory for technology to convert this activity to a more dignified form of work and also help in making the country healthy and disease free

Use strong brooms and not flimsy brooms that keep breaking. Use Clorox, vinegar and baking soda to clean. Use mops with the easy to squeeze out water bucket, so that people don't have to break their backs by bending and wet their hands by holding a dirty mop. Softer brooms and tightly knit brooms are better than the ones I have seen everyone brandishing! :)

Cleaning doesn't have to be a dirty job. Look at other countries, cleaning is not looked down upon, infact they are paid well and respected as important people doing a very necessary and vital service.

Those who do cleaning work, need to be given the right equipment, gloves, masks, uniform, a vehicle, and dignity through proper wages, and titles, as well as education and training in cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation etc.

I suggest and welcome if a task is given to INDIANS to prepare and use technology to solve this issue.. Because I have seen people doing this in various places and videos.. I think itz time to use our brain in solving this problem atleast a bit that we use in other areas..
